Under the leadership of its Chief Executive Officer, André DANG VAN NHA, SMSP that had neither mining title nor domain back in 1990 and which was then working as a subcontrator, has since become New Caledonia’s leading mineral ore exporter. Thanks to its majority holdings in mining and metallurgy assets, the modest New Caledonian mining subcontractor, which became world leader in mineral ore exports in 1995, is now poised to become with its two processing plants in which it holds a majority participation, the world leader of ferronickel production.

SOFINOR
Société de Financement et d’Investissement de la Province Nord, thereafter SOFINOR, is a semi-public investment company under the control of the Northern Province of New Caledonia, which was created to acquire SMSP in October 5, 1990. Its aim is to drive forward the implementation of both structuring projects furthering the rebalancing process and a sustainable development while allowing the populations from the North, particularly Kanaks, to become players of the Caledonian economy.

Xstrata Nickel & KNS
Xstrata is a major global mining group, listed on the London and Swiss stock exchanges and headquartered in Switzeland.

POSCO, SNNC & NMC
POSCO is one of the world leading producers of stainless steel based in South Korea. It currently operates two steel mills in the country, one in Pohang and the other in Gwangyang.
In addition, POSCO operates a joint venture with US steel, USS-POSCO, which is located in Pittburg, California. A symbol of national pride, POSCO employed 28 853 (2005) people.
The principal market of POSCO’s products is the domestic market in Korea, while export and overseas sales are concentrated in Japan, China and other countries in the Asia Pacific region.
SNNC (Société du Nickel de Nouvelle Calédonie et Corée) is the joint venture that POSCO operates with SMSP in Gwangwang for the processing plant, along with NMC (Nickel Mining Company), the other POSCO - SMSP joint venture established in New Caledonia and that looks after the mining branch.
